ALISO VIEJO — The 2018 SCIAC Tournament Champions opened the season with a 2-0 win at Soka University on Saturday.
Coming off their best season in program history and first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance, the Tigers did not disappoint. Oxy's Jasmine Davis scored the first goal of the season in the 41st minute on an assist from Chiara Serafini and then Ashley Rodarte provided the insurance goal with a score in the 78th minute.
Oxy's defense, which was one of the best in the country last season, looked strong again with no blemishes. The Tigers only allowed Soka one shot all game after giving up just six goals in 18 games last season.
The Tigers dominated for most of the game and could have finished the match with more than the two goals with frequent chances on offense.
Oxy goes to 1-0 on the season.
Soka, an NAIA team from Aliso Viejo, is handed its first lost and moves to 2-1. Soka had beaten San Diego Christian 5-2 and Whittier 2-1.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at St. Katherine on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.
