Oxy Opens SCIAC Meets at Redlands

REDLANDS — Freshman Isabelle Dunne finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.86) and second in the 400 hurdles (1:05.35), highlighting the Occidental women's track and field team's performance at its first SCIAC meet of the season at Redlands on Saturday.

The Tigers lost to Whittier and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Top Oxy Performances:

Oxy sprinter Onyekachi Nwabueze also had a solid day, finishing third in the 100 (12.78) and fifth in the 200 (26.23).

Oxy thrower Kimberly Orpinella placed third in the hammer (44.54).

Despite battling the flu, Mel Devoney finished fifth in the 1,500 (5:02.28).

Charlotte Selters finished seventh (19:50.86) and Grace Bender was right behind her in eighth (19:51.62) in the 5,000.

Scoring Note: Track and field SCIAC dual meets count as 25 percent of a team's overall finish in the conference standings. The SCIAC Championship is 75 percent of the final score. 

Next Meet: The Tigers host the Oxy Distance Carnival and Sprints Festival on March 13.
