Oxy Women Finish 2nd For First Time Since 1999

LOS ANGELES — For the first time since 1999, the Occidental women's track and field team finished second at the SCIAC Championship meet and second overall in the conference standings.

"Our women just keep getting better and better as the year goes on," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "Their second-place finish today is a pleasant surprise and a truly remarkable accomplishment. To go from sixth last year to second this year is something they should be proud of and something we can continue to build on."

The Tigers had six second-place individual performances, with three coming on each day of the two-day competition.

Roxanne Valle took second in the 5,000m (17:44.52) Isabelle Dunne finished second in the 400m hurdles (63.61) and Oxy's 4x400m relay team (Charlotte Cullip, Isabelle Dunne, Allison Kilday, Onyekachi Nwabueze at 3:56.38) cemented Oxy's second-place team finish in the last track event of the meet.

Melissa Braun placed second in the pole vault (11-6.5), Mel Devoney set a personal record with a second-place finish in the 10,000m (37:47.54) and Aria Blumm took second in the 3,000m steeplechase on Friday.

Emma Yudelevitch finished third in the 100m (12.41) and Sabrina Degnan took third in the javelin (124-10).

SCIAC Scoring: The dual-meet season makes up 25 percent of the final standing with the remaining 75 percent determined at the SCIAC Championship.

SCIAC Standings 

Event Scoring: The meet will be scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for all events. Eight athletes advance to the finals in all track events except the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays. Nine athletes will advance to the finals in all field events.
