Blumm Wins Steeplechase at SCIAC 3

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental track and field teams competed in their third of three SCIAC Multi-Dual meets on Saturday, hosted by Cal Lutheran at Jack Kemp Stadium and Bill Henry Track.

The Oxy women went 1-2 with a win over Cal Lutheran, and losses to Redlands and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Oxy distance standout Aria Blumm toughed her way through a challenging double, winning the 3,000m steeplechase at 11:40 and taking second in the 5,000m at 18:28.45.

In the sprints, Emma Yudelevitch and LaShauna Porter both took second and third, respectively, in in the 100m and 200m. Yudelevitch ran 12.36 and 25.29 and Porter had times of 12.68 and 25.76.

Oxy's 4x400m relay team of Charlotte Cullip, Onyekachi Nwabueze, Amelia Ashley and Yudelevitch broke 4 minutes for a win with the top time in the SCIAC this year at 3:59.47.

In the field events, Sabrina Degnan set a personal record in the shot put at 37-11.25 for a fourth-place finish in a strong field of throwers.

Season Impact: The Tigers will head into the SCIAC Championships with a 6-2 record in dual meet competition, trailing second-place Redlands and first-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

The dual meet season accounts for 25 percent of the final SCIAC standing with the remaining 75 percent determined at the SCIAC Championship.

Next Meet: The Oxy track teams have next weekend off and then are back in action at the SCIAC Championship meet on April 28-29.
