Oxy Track Teams Beat Pomona-PItzer


LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's and women's track and field teams opened the season with a win over Pomona-Pitzer in their annual dual meet by a combined score total of 149-113 at Bill Henry Track on Saturday.

Tyler Webb led the way for the Oxy men in sprinting events, running a solid 11.07 in the 100m. 

Jackson Moore had a nice personal record in the 3,000m for the men, running 9:35.

In the men's field events, Jesse Nikora had a promising win in the hammer at 138-01 and Kyle Abundo won the shot put with a personal record of 44-03.25.

Sabrina Degnan led the Oxy women with wins in all four throwing events with solid early season marks. Degnan is one of Oxy's star athletes as the school record holder, a national qualifier and a SCIAC Champion in the javelin.

Joelle Floyd also had a good day for the women's throwers, setting a personal record in the shot put at 33-01.

The Tigers had big day in the jumping events led by Cora Davies, who won the high jump with a clearance of 5-03. Melissa Braun won the pole vault with a clearance of 11-11.75, and Jada Newkirk won the long jump at 17-02.25.
