Oxy Volleybal Goes 3-1 in Texas

SHERMAN, Texas — The Occidental women's volleyball team went 3-1 at Austin College this weekend.

Oxy's record goes to 5-2 overall.

The Tigers are back in action in Cedar Rapids, Iowa next weekend. Oxy's first SCIAC match is against Whittier on Sept. 19.

Match 1: Occidental 3, LeTourneau 0

Claire Strohm led the way with 12 kills and Sabrina Degnan added 10 as the Tigers won easily in straight sets, 25-20, 25-14, 25-14.

Strohm also had three aces, and Emily Davis and Hannah Wagner each had two. Allie Sundara led Oxy with 21 assists.

Defensively, Strohm led with 11 digs, Amanda Herold had 10 and Wagner added 10.

The Tigers hit .309 as a group and limited LeTourneau to just .029 hitting. 

Match 2: Austin College 3, Occidental 2

Wagner led five Tigers with double figure kills with 16, but the Tigers couldn't pull off a five-set comeback, falling 20-25, 25-16, 25-16, 23-25, 13-15.

Degnan had 15 kills, Strohm recorded 13, Herold totaled 12 and Cassandra Guidice chipped in 11. Sundara had 35 assists and Lara Minassians had 24. Wagner had 21 digs and two aces.

Mayson Kennon led Austin College with 13 kills. 

Match 3: Occidental 3, Sul Ross St. 0

Degnan led Oxy with 10 kills on .412 hitting as Oxy won easily, 25-19, 25-14, 25-18. Strohm and Wagner added seven kills, and Taylor Gorreta chipped in six.

Herold had a team-high three aces and eight digs.

Oxy hit .295 as a group.

Match 4: Occidental 3, McMurry 1

The Tigers finished their four-match trip to Texas with a win over McMurry, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18.

Oxy dropped its first set before rallying to win three straight games.

Strohm had her best offensive performance of the season, totaling a game-high 18 kills. Herold and Degnan each had 12 and Guidice added eight.
