Oxy Starts Strong Against Pomona-Pitzer


LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's water polo team started strong against a good Pomona-Pitzer team before falling 21-6 at Taylor Pool on Wednesday.

Oxy was down 3-2 after the first quarter and lost the second 5-2 in a great first-half effort, but struggled to maintain its performance in the second half with turnovers and transition goals costing the Tigers.

Lori Berberian was solid with six drawn exclusions and Chelsea Evans had three steals for the Tigers.

Oxy had six players score with Berberian, Evans, Claudia Oppermann, Chandler Luebbers, Monica Chernoff and Abigail Lavold all scoring one goal.

Luebbers had three assists, and Oppermann, Evans and Lavold each had one.

Anna Yu, Janelle Lewis, Nohea Kahaulelio and Nadia Paquin led the Sagehens with three goals each.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 3-2 on the season.

Pomona-Pitzer improves to 5-5 and 1-0 in SCIAC.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action at the Claremont Convergence tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers first game will be against Villanova at 10 a.m. at CMS.
