PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2007) – The
Occidental Tigers offense continued to flourish in their Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener this morning
against Caltech.
Oxy walked away with a 21-2 victory after a
23-10 performance against Connecticut College yesterday. Fourteen
Tigers contributed to the 21 goal assault, led by Andrew
Valdes who tallied four. Abiel Garcia,
John Wensman, Mac Hansler and
Greg Benz each added a pair.
Freshman Austen Oliver led
the team with three assists while Valdes, Adalberto
Vasquez and Blair Bergsteinsson had two
each.
The freshman duo of Vasquez and Joseph
Hammer were each responsible for two exclusions drawn in
the contest. Benz, a freshman attacker, added to his offense with
four steals as did Valdes.
Bergsteinsson blocked seven shots while
allowing two Beavers goals.
Oxy improves to 9-7 overall this season with a
1-0 SCIAC mark. The Tigers returning to Taylor Pool this afternoon
to host Fresno Pacific University at 4:00 p.m.
