LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 17, 2007) –
Too little too late in the end for Occidental water polo as the
Tigers walked away from Taylor Pool with a 15-12 loss to Cal
Lutheran in SCIAC play today.
The Tigers took a 3-1 first quarter lead and saw a 5-5 tie at the
half before the Kingsmen took a 9-8 lead with a minute remaining in
the third quarter. Cal Lutheran didn't look back as they
added six goals in the final frame while Oxy came up with just
four.
Sophomore All-SCIAC and All-American Matt
Heagy scored his first of six goals just 35 seconds into the game.
He also added the 12th and 13th goals merely
30 seconds apart to give the Kingsmen their eventual winning goal.
Occidental's Andrew
Valdes again led the offense as he turned in a five goal
performance for the Tigers. Teammate Cameron
Brahmst found the back of the net four times. Rounding out
the Oxy scoring was Abiel Garcia, Adam
Kantor and Sean Inoue.

the ball six times in the game and drew two ejections. Max
Kelly, John Wensman and Valdes each had three steals as
well.
Kelly and Quinten Beckmann had 13 saves apiece
in front of the cage for Oxy and CLU respectively.
Both teams now sit at 1-1 in SCIAC play as the
Tigers fall to 10-8 while the Kingsmen improve to 8-12.
