CLAREMONT, Calif. (Sept. 22, 2007) –
Occidental College water polo posted a pair of 10-goal performances
as they defeated Western Water Polo Association rival Chapman
University 10-4 and Mt. Sac College 10-6 at the 2007 Cal Baptist
Invitational on Saturday.
Scoring over the two-game period was spread
out between 11 different Tigers, including four-goal performances
by Abiel Garcia and Andrew
Valdes. While all of Valdes' scores came against Mt.
Sac, Garcia contributed three in the win over Chapman, adding one
more in the second game of the day.
In addition to scoring, Garcia tallied three
steals, two drawn ejections, a field block and an assist while
Valdes tacked on four assists, two steals and a drawn ejection on
the day.
The remaining goals against Chapman came from
juniors Cameron Brahmst (2), Sean
Inoue, John Wensman, sophomore
Mackenzie Hansler and freshmen Greg
Benz and Adalberto Vasquez.
In the afternoon junior transfer Jake
Santelli found the back of the goal twice as did Hansler,
freshmen Josh Kantor and Austen
Oliver.
Overall Oliver, a utility player, contributed
a team-high six assists, also drawing two ejections and getting a
field block as well. Santelli finished the double-header with three
assists and a drawn ejection for the Tigers.
Wensman, an attacker, drew a team leading four
ejections and a steal on the weekend.
Occidental evens their overall season record
to 4-4.
The Tigers will jump in the pool for their
first home contest of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 26 when they
host Concordia University at 4:00 p.m. in Taylor Pool.
