LOS
ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2008) – In only their third home
game of the entire 2008 season, five Occidental College Tigers bid
farewell to the pool they have called home for four years. The
ending was sweet for the quintet as each scored at least one goal
and had either a steal or an assist if not both in the 26-4 victory
over Caltech.
In
very limited action senior Andrew Valdes
scored three goals as
classmate Sean Inoue netted a pair in his only two attempts
while Abiel Garcia, John Wensman and Cameron Brahmst
each scored once. The
seniors also combined for six steals and six assists as Brahmst
drew a pair of ejections as well.
The
young Tigers got in on the offense as well, with Richard
Dybass leading
all players scoring five goals. Freshman Brendan
Whitmore and Tai McDermott
recorded two and one
goals, respectively. McDermott added four assists while Whitmore
finished with two drawn ejections.
Each of the remaining Tigers who played in
the field also added at least one score. Blair
Bergsteinsson had a goal to go along with his game-high
five steals and four blocks in goal (one half) with an
assist. Austen Oliver had a game-high six assists, notching a goal
in his only shot.
Adam Kantor scored four goals with two assists as
brother Josh was responsible for a pair and an
assist. Greg Benz was responsible for two goals, three assists
and a drawn ejection.
In
one half of work in front of the cage Max Kelly
blocked three shots for
Oxy.
The
Tigers improve to 12-13 overall and now hold a 4-2 SCIAC record.
The conference race remains close with Oxy tied for second with
Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Occidental will travel to La Verne on
Saturday, Nov. 8 to take on the Leopards at 11:00
a.m.
