CLAREMONT, Calif. (Jan. 17, 2009) –
Occidental College shot 50% from the field as they opened a 10
point lead at the break and cruised to a 64-43 road win over
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday evening.
Three Tigers hit
double-figures in scoring, with Britinee Yasukochi
leading all players with
13. Dior Williams and Stephanie Babij
finished with 12 and 11
points, respectively and Brianne Brown
tallied nine. Yasukochi
also added four assists.
Occidental used a
13-for-25 shooting performance in the opening half of action to
build a comfortable lead midway through the game. Babij sank a
lay-up, for two of the Tigers' 28 points in the paint, to
give Oxy a 9-8 lead with just under 14 minutes to play in the
opening stanza. They would not look back, maintaining a double
figure lead after Brittany Mally's
three pointer just
before time expired in the first half, throughout the remainder of
regulation. Mally also gave Oxy its biggest lead of the game,
22-points, on her second three-pointer of the game, in as many
chances.
Defensively Brown led
the pack with five steals while adding six rebounds. Gillian
Nugent was the
rebounding leader for Occidental with seven.
For CMS (9-6, 2-2
SCIAC), Cameron Hanson pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, seven
on the offensive end of the court, more than the Tigers combined
for (six). Sasha Goldkorn was the Athena's leading scorer
with 11 points.
Thursday night, Jan. 22, the Tigers will
host the Poets from Whittier College for a 7:30 p.m. tip off in
conference action as both teams enter the night with records of
