ORANGE, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2009) – After opening Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play for the first
time in 2009 the Tigers jumped back in the pool in their final
non-conference game of the season. Unfortunately for Occidental,
Chapman University got the most of the black and orange, sending
Oxy home with a 13-6 loss.
The Tigers hung with the Panthers during each of the first two
quarters, scoring twice apiece in each period but trailed 6-4 at
halftime. Oxy was held scoreless in the third quarter before adding
a pair in the final eight minutes of action. Chapman, however,
tacked on seven second half goals, five in the fourth quarter, to
earn the victory.
Occidental's attack was led by Austen
Oliver who notched a pair of goals. Brendan
Whitmore, Greg Benz Richard Dybas and Tai
McDermott each scored as well.
The loss drops the team's overall record
to 5-12. Oxy looked to return to its winning ways on Wednesday,
Oct. 21 when they travel next door to Pasadena to take on the
Caltech Beavers at 5:00 p.m.
