HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 17, 2010) – In their final non-conference match-ups of the season, the Tigers traveled to the Golden West Tournament where they split with Fresno Pacific and Concordia.
Occidental came away with an 11-9 victory in game one over Fresno Pacific, but fell 13-7 to Concordia in the weekend finale.
Greg Benz was a perfect 8-for-8 on the day, posting his second five-goal game of the weekend against FPU after pacing the Tigers to a 12-11 upset win over Whittier College yesterday in conference action. In that game he also added a pair of assists, two steals a field block and a drawn ejection. Both Tai McDermott and Brendan Whitmore added two goals in the win while Scott Churchman tallied 14 saves in front of the cage.
Against host Concordia Benz scored his third hat-trick of the week and came up with a pair of drawn ejections and two steals. Kyle Reuther stopped 13 shots and finished with two steals and a drawn ejections for the Tigers.
Occidental (5-14, 1-0 SCIAC) returns to Taylor Pool on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. when they host the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags in SCIAC action.
