ORANGE, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2010) – The Tigers fired off 28
shots today, but the cross bars got in the way, Occidental College
fell 12-9 to host Chapman University in non-conference action this
morning.
A young squad continues to show solid improvement as the weeks
wear on and today was no different.
Chapman opened up an early 4-0 lead, but the tenacious Tigers
clawed back into the game and trailed just 6-4 at the mid-way
mark.
Greg Benz put the Black and Orange on the board
with his first of two goals in the game three and a half minutes
into the second period of play. CU added a fifth goal with 3:04 to
go in the second, but Oxy connected for back-to-back goals pulling
within one goal at 5-4 with 23 seconds to go in the first half.
That was as close as the Tigers would get, though.
Joining Benz with a pair of goals today were Brendan Whitmore and Josh Kantor. Joe Reynolds chipped in with three assists, adding a goal of
his own, while both Benz and Tai McDermott had two
assists apiece with McDermott drawing a team-leading five
ejections.
Scott Churchman recorded nine saves in front of
the goal today.
Next weekend, Oct. 8-9, the Tigers (1-9) travel to the Claremont
Convergence Tournament where they will play Harvard University,
Fresno Pacific, Penn State-Behrend and Santa Clara
University.
