LA VERNE, Calif. (Nov. 3, 2010) – A 19 block game from goalie Scott Churchman propelled the Tigers past the Leopards, 13-7, at the University of La Verne this afternoon in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
While sophomore Brendan Whitmore posted a hat-trick while Josh Kantor, Tai McDermott and Richard Dybas netted a pair apiece, Churchman paced the defense.
Oxy jumped out to a 4-1 lead at the end of the opening stanza behind scoring from four different players. The Tigers and Leos exchanged a pair in the second as Occidental took a 6-3 advantage into the intermission.
After the break, Occidental used a three goal third to extend their lead to 9-5 entering the final period of play. The Tigers doubled up the Leopards 4-2 in the fourth, to clinch the 13-7 victory.
Occidental (7-17) evened their SCIAC mark at 3-3 with the win. The Tigers return to Taylor Pool on Homecoming for the final game of the first round of SCIAC play on Saturday, Nov. 6. Oxy and the University of Redlands Bulldogs jump in at 11:00 a.m. following senior recognitions.
Following the game head out to Patterson Field where the Homecoming festivities continue with the football game at 2:30 p.m. and the women's soccer SCIAC Tournament Championship game at 7:00 p.m.
