Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Black and Orange set the tone in the first half by forcing 27 turnovers on the way to a 19 point halftime lead in this Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match up with Caltech. Oxy showed off its depth for the second straight contest, with all 14 active players scoring at least two points, to propel the Tigers to an 80 to 24 victory.
After a slow start to the game, the Tigers picked up three consecutive steals to fuel a 14-3 run to take a double digit lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the game. The leading thief was Stephanie Scamman who picked the Beaver pockets for seven first half steals. Marquisha Corley and Laura Mohler picked up three steals apiece, as Oxy accounted for 18 first half steals. Scamman also had eight points in the half, but the offense in the opening stanza was led by Elizabeth Messick with 10 points, as the Black and Orange led 35-16 at the half.
In the second half the Tigers forced 22 more turnovers, holding Caltech to just eight points, as the offense rolled up 45 points. Kendra Carter scored nine points and Gaby Hirsh-Gonzalez added eight to lead the second half surge. Scamman picked up her career high 10th steal at the 13:25 mark and converted the layup for her 10th point to log the only double double of the night.
Stephanie Babij pulled down a game high six rebounds while Liz Little and Annika Awbrey had four rebounds each. Michelle Lo handed out a game high four assists.
Caltech (0-17, 0-6) was led by Theresa Juarez with six points and five rebounds.
Oxy (10-7, 5-1) will travel Saturday to Cal Lutheran University (4-2) to take on the Regals who currently sit in third place in the SCIAC standings. Tipoff is scheduled for 5pm.
