PASADENA — Three Occidental College women's basketball players came off of the bench and scored in double digits, leading the Tigers to a 74-40 win over Caltech at the Braun Athletic Center on Saturday.
Annika Awbrey (Saratoga) and Crystal Goodwin (Inglewood) scored career highs and Liz Little (Littleton, Colo.) hit three 3-pointers for the second consecutive game, helping Oxy extend its winning streak to four games.
At one point, Awbrey and Little combined for 20 points of Oxy's 24-11 run to close the first half, giving the Tigers (17-3, 9-1 SCIAC) a big lead that put the game out of reach.
Awbrey, who finished with 15, and Goodwin, who scored 12, both broke previous career highs they set against Monmouth College on Dec. 31, 2011 — Awbrey 12 and Goodwin 10.
Awbrey missed just one shot, shooting the game 7 for 8 from the field.
Little followed up a 3 for 8 performance from beyond the arc on Thursday against La Verne, with a 3 for 8 night against the Beavers.
As a team, Oxy was better from the three-point line for the second game in a row, shooting 30 percent, six better than the 24 percent clip they're shooting three's at this season.
Elizabeth Messick (Reno, Nev.) was dominant inside for the Tigers, grabbing six rebounds and blocking three shots, to go along with eight points.
Oxy shot 44 percent from the field and outrebounded Caltech 45-25.
Rachel Hess and Theresa Juarez led the Beavers (0-20, 0-9 SCIAC) with 13 points.
It's a quick turnaround for the Tigers. They're back in action, playing their third game in four days, against Chapman University tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Rush Gymnasium.
