LOS ANGELES — For the 10th time this season, the Occidental women's soccer team played in a one-goal game. In thrilling fashion, the Tigers scored two second-half goals to capture a 2-1 comeback victory over Chapman at Lower Field on Saturday.
Chapman had a strong first half. Rebeccah Bortz's header gave the Panther's the lead in the 36th minute. Chapman had 13 first half shots.
In the second half, Occidental looked like a different team. The team was reenergized and in the 67th minute, Julie Khil earned a penalty kick for the Tigers when her cross deflected off the hand of a Chapman player. Khil buried her penalty kick in the right corner to tie the score at one. This was Khil's second goal of the season against Chapman and fifth of the year.
The Tigers kept the pressure high. In the 76th minute, they got their breakthrough on a piece of individual brilliance from Michaela Tsuha. After receiving the ball on the right wing, Tsuha beat her defender and lofted her shot over the keeper from a seemingly impossible angle.
The Tigers defense was outstanding again. In particular, center back Taryn Ng was everywhere for the Tigers. Occidental improves to 4-9-2 overall and 3-8-1 in SCIAC play. Their last home game is at 4 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium on Oct. 30.
