REDLANDS — Matt Weiser scored the game-winning goal with 2:36 left in regulation as the Occidental Men's Water Polo team edged Pomona-Pitzer 8-7 in the seventh place match of the SCIAC Championship on Sunday morning.
Oxy finishes the season 8-25 overall, but won three of its last six games.
Weiser, who finished with a game-high three goals, also gave Occidental some momentum with a goal with 4 seconds left in the half to tie the score 5-5, after Phillip Clayman had given the Sagehens the lead with 45 seconds left.
Matt Munet and Paul Bergevin each finished with a pair of goals and Josh Needleman totaled 11 saves.
The Tigers beat Caltech on Friday in the play-in game in the SCIAC Championship tournament and then fell to Whittier (17-7) and Redlands (16-12) before beating the Sagehens on Sunday.
Bergevin was Oxy's leading scorer in the tournament with 13 goals.
