Box Score LOS ANGELES — Triana Anderson posted a double-double — with 17 points and 11 rebounds — and the Occidental women's basketball team had its fair share of the lead and an opportunity to knock off the defending regular season SCIAC Champions.
But Chapman's Megan Charles scored a game-high 27 points off of the bench on 10 of 17 shooting and the Tigers didn't make enough plays down the stretch, losing to Chapman 63-60 at Rush Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Oxy falls to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in SCIAC play. The Panthers improve to 4-6 and 2-0.
Turning Point: Charles' two biggest jump shots came with 4:41 left to give Chapman a 57-54 lead and then again with 3:05 left, putting the Panthers up 59-54.
Anderson nearly helped Oxy erase a six-point deficit with back-to-back buckets, cutting the Panthers' lead to 62-60 with 55 seconds left and the Tigers got the stop they needed, but were unable to convert on offense.
Oxy shot just 31 percent from the field on the game, but did play its scrappy defense, forcing Chapman into 23 turnovers.
Ashton Reid scored 14 points and Kendahl Wallis-Lang added 11 for the Tigers.
Andrea Villanueva scored 10 points for the Panthers.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at La Verne on Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
