LOS ANGELES — Paul Bergevin and Matt Otsuka each scored both of their goals in the first half as the Occidental men's water polo team had one of the better NCAA Division III teams in the nation tied 7-7 at halftime.
But Whittier came on strong in the second half led by three goals from Massimiliano Mirarchi in the third quarter, and then rattled off a 6-0 quarter as a group in the fourth.
Mirarchi finished with a game-high six goals.
Topher Lacrampe led Oxy with three goals.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 2-13 overall and 0-2 in SCIAC play. Whittier goes to 13-8 and 2-0.
Next Game: The Tigers play at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.
