LOS ANGELES — Erin Matsumoto scored a game-high 22 points and Dru Ishibashi had a good look at the game-winning shot, but the ball bounced in and out as the Occidental College women's basketball ball team fell to Linfield 67-66 Sunday afternoon.  

Matsumoto gave the Tigers a chance to win late when she stole the ball from Quincey Gibson with nine seconds left in the game. Ishibashi drove the ball to the hole but her shot just missed the mark.

Matsumoto did most of her damage in the first half scoring 16 points on 4-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc. The junior finished with six 3-pointers including one with 3:11 left in the game to tie the game at 61-61.

Ishibiahi totalled five points, five assists and two steals.

The Tigers took control in the first half and led by as many as nine points until Amantha Hood scored in the paint to give Linfield a one point lead with 2:17 left in the half. The Wildcats went into the break leading 36-35.

After trailing by nine points midway through the third quarter, Mackenzie Bretz capitalized on a fast break to bring the Tigers back to within one. Bretz finished with six points and six rebounds. 

Triana Anderson tied the game at 54 all with a jumper to start the final period and Kendahl Wallis-Lang gave Oxy a two-point lead on the following possession.

Ciara Byrne was the only other Tigers in double figures with 12 points. 

Hood led the Wildcats with 16 points. Hannah Depew scored 15 and Gibson had 11 points. 

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 0-4 on the season. Linfield improves to 3-1 and has beaten Whittier and Oxy from the SCIAC.

Next Game: The Tigers play UC Merced on Friday at 3 p.m.
