Pacific Rallies to Beat Tigers

LOS ANGELESKwame Do ran for 126 yards on 20 carries, and Bryan Scott threw a pair of touchdowns and ran for another.

But the Occidental football team couldn't sustain an early 13-0 lead and Pacific separated itself in the fourth quarter, beating the Tigers 41-23 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.

Scott, who was named the SCIAC Male Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 15 after a big opening week, found Cordell Harris 11 times for 129 yards receiving. He also hit Devin Bullock four times for 54 yards and Kaleb Mitchell five times for 26 yards and two touchdowns, finishing with 258 yards through the air.

Pacific was led by Nathan Suyematsu, who caught 10 passes for 130 yards and one touchdown. Warner Shaw was 24 of 34 for 309 yards passing and three touchdowns and Branson Barretto rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns. 

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 1-1 on the season. Pacific improves to 2-1.

Turning Point: The Tigers had the ball in the fourth quarter, trailing 27-23 with a drive to take the lead, but Scott got hit hard on a scramble, lost the ball and Pacific recovered. 

Play of the Game: With the game's result still very much in question on 3rd and goal from the 7-yard line, Warner found tight end Zak Porche in the back of the end zone, giving Pacific a 34-23 lead with 3:32 to play.

Oxy was able to jump on top 13-0, capitalizing on a pair of bad snaps in punting situations and a fumble. 

After putting up a donut hole in the first quarter, the Boxers scored double digits in each of the next three quarters.

Casey Dudley led Oxy with eight tackles. 

Athlete of the Week: Scott was named SCIAC Male Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 15 after throwing for 421 yards and five touchdowns in Oxy's season opener at Puget Sound. 

Week 1: The Tigers won a shootout at Puget Sound, 46-41.

Next Game: Oxy begins SCIAC competition against La Verne at Jack Kemp Stadium on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
