Panthers' Press Too Much For Tigers

Box Score

LOS ANGELES — Midori McElwee and Grace Baranowski were both in double figures, but the Occidental College Women's basketball team couldn't keep up with Chapman's full court press and fell 67-47 Tuesday night.

McElwee finished with 11 points and led the Tigers with four assists. Baranowski scored 12 points and had four rebounds.

After trailing by 14 points at the end of the first period, Oxy rallied in the second quarter cutting Chapman's lead to four points heading into the break. But the Panthers tightened up their defense in the second half and were helped by 60 percent shooting from beyond the arc to close out the win.

Megan Charles finished with 16 points and Jaime Hum-Nishikado scored 15 points for Chapman.

Erin Matsumoto led Oxy with six rebounds and scored six points.

Season Impact: The Tigers drop to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in SCIAC play. Chapman moves to 8-5 and 3-1 in the SCIAC.

Next Game: Oxy travels to Whittier College next Tuesday to face the Poets at 7:30 p.m.
