LOS ANGELES – William Kim led the Tigers with five goals, but the Occidental men's water polo team was unable to stop a second-half surge from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a 15-11 loss at Taylor Pool on Saturday.
Oxy took an early 2-0 lead. Matt Weiser was fouled by the goalie at the start of the first quarter and then Matt Munet took the penalty shot and skipped the ball in for the first goal. On the following possession, the Tigers took advantage of an exclusion play and got a goal from Kim.
Down 10-12 in the fourth quarter, Oxy had a chance to close the gap with a pair of Stags being excluded, but they were not about to capitalize on the opportunity.
Munet and Paul Bergevin had two goals each for Oxy.
Eric Bakar and Graham Fullerton led CMS with three goals each.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 1-4 in SCIAC play. CMS improves to 3-1.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action next Saturday at La Verne.
