LOS ANGELES — Dominic Rodriguez, William Kim and Paul Bergevin each scored four goals as the Occidental men's water polo team beat Caltech 17-5 at Taylor Pool on Wednesday.
Matt Weiser chipped in three goals for Oxy.
The Tigers started hot as senior Matt Munet scored a goal on the first possession. 3 minutes later, Rodriguez stole a pass and drove it in to give the tigers a 2-0 lead.
Going into the third quarter, the Tigers had a 7-2 cushion on the beavers. The Tigers won the sprint and drove the ball down the pool. Weiser scored off a fast pass from Alexander Zim to add to the lead. The Tigers closed the quarter when Rodriguez scored a goal off a long pass from goalkeeper Adam Florsheim to give the Tigers a 11-4 lead.
The Tigers were able to extend their lead in the fourth quarter adding six more, highlighted by back-to-back scores from Bergervin.
Florsheim had another strong day in goal, making several acrobatic saves. He finished with 17 saves, three steals and three assists.
Senior Day: The Tigers honored the three seniors on the team.
Adam Florsheim – Florsheim has had an outstanding season as the Tiger's goalkeeper. He leads the SCIAC in saves. Florsheim will graduate with a degree in physics and mathematics
Matt Munet – Matt is a key part of the occidental offense. He leads the team in assists and will be graduating with a degree in economics.
Paul Bergevin – Bergevin is a four-year starter for the Tigers and the leading scorer on the team. He was 2nd team all SCIAC in 2014. Bergevin will graduate with a degree in economics.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 2-5 in conference play. They will play their final regular season game at Whittier Saturday at 7 pm.
The Tigers finish the regular season at Whittier on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
