Box Score LOS ANGELES — Occidental men's basketball player Jay Miller was named SCIAC Male Student-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday after another big week to his standout season.
Miller, a junior from Los Angeles, scored 23 of Oxy's 50 points against Redlands and had 15 points in the second half in a win over La Verne, including nine during a 20-2 run that helped Oxy erase a nine-point lead.
The 6-foot guard is now tied for the SCIAC lead in points per game at 21.4 with Chapman's Cam Haslam.
Miller is the second Oxy men's basketball player to receive the honor this season. Oxy forward Andrew Johnson won the award two weeks ago.
Miller is shooting 46 percent from the field and 42 percent from the 3-point line. He has scored 20 or more points in nine of Oxy's 13 SCIAC games so far this season.
The Tigers square off with Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m at Rush Gym.
