THOUSAND OAKS – Adam Florsheim continues to build on his outstanding season, breaking the Occidental men's water polo record with 26 saves in a 9-3 loss against Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
He also added 12 in Oxy's 16-6 win over Ventura College in the morning game of the Tigers' doubleheader at the Kingsmen Mini Tournament.
"I was really excited after the game when I was told how many saves I had," Florsheim said. "I was just in the zone today. I was seeing the ball well and the defense made my job easier by forcing them to take tough shots."
Florsheim is averaging better than 15 saves per game and leads the SCIAC in total saves with 135.
"Adam is one of the best, if not the best goalie in our conference and he showed it today," Oxy head coach Chris Lee said. "He allows us a lot of flexibility on defense and has been consistently good from our first game all the way through this point in the season."
Florsheim has even been outstanding against NCAA Division I competition. He made 16 saves against Loyola Marymount and 14 against Long Beach State.
"The things that Adam does technically well allow him to be really effective against any level of competition that we'll see this year," Lee said. "We're excited to have him as our anchor and looking forward to his continued success this season."
Game 1: Occidental 16, Ventura College 6
