Box Score LAIE — Julie Khil and Megan Maher each found the back of the net as the Occidental women's soccer team defeated NCAA Division II BYU-Hawaii in their season opener on Saturday.
The Tigers are playing a pair of road games on the island of Oahu during Labor Day Weekend. Oxy finishes its stay in Hawaii with a game against Hawaii Pacific on Monday.
Khil scored in the 19th minute, on a pass from Erin Iacullo, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead by halftime.
Khil, the 2014 SCIAC Women's Soccer Athlete of the Year, is up to 26 career goals in 50 career games. She scored seven her first season, eight her sophomore year and 10 last season.
Maher gave the Tigers an insurance goal in the 53rd minute after a BYU-Hawaii turnover.
Oxy and HPU kickoff at 3 p.m. local time on Monday.

Kylie Takafuji '17 (Iolani School) - Studying kinesiology at Oxy. Four-year dynamic starting midfielder that's been an unsung hero in the program. Second Team All-SCIAC in 2013. Team captain in 2016.
Michaela Tsuha '16 (Punahou HS) - Studied biology at Oxy. Four year forward, captain, three time All-SCIAC selection and an All-West Region choice in 2015. She'll be doing research at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles next year and applying to medical school.
Kelsey Hung '16 (Iolani School) - Studied kinesiology at Oxy. Team captain, starting defender and inspirational leader. Currently teaching science at Windward Nazarene Academy in Kaneohe, Hawaii and plans to go to school for physical therapy.
Elissa Minamishin '14 (Iolani School) - Studied kinesiology at Oxy. Named to two All-SCIAC teams as a forward. Led the Tigers with an 11-goal team-best in 2011. Teaching at Island Pacific Academy.
Kellee Murayama '12 (Iolani School) - Studied biochemistry at Oxy. Named to two All-SCIAC teams and one All-Region team. Now a PhD graduate student at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and working on campus in residence life.
Jesi Sasaki '11 (Iolani School) - Studied psychology and japanese at Oxy. Became the first woman to earn SCIAC Player of the Year as a first year. Now a Pre Doctoral Intern at San Mateo Medical Center.
Carly Wachi '10 (Punahou School) - Studied biochemistry at Oxy. Talented, technically gifted midfielder and forward who started for three seasons. Now a medical student at New York Medical College.
Marci Kang '10 (Iolani School) - Studied chemistry and kinesiology at Oxy. Three time All-SCIAC and two-time All-West Region selection. Team captain and forceful leader. Now a Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioengineering at Rice University.
Starlie Chinen '09 (Kalani HS) - Studied physics at Oxy. Went on to get her master's in teaching from USC. First Hawaiian recruit under head coach Colm McFeely. Prominent leader on campus and now working in education in Seattle, Wash.
