LOS ANGELES — Ryan Kaneshiro had a couple of key baskets down the stretch, Zach Baines hit a pair of clutch free throws and the Occidental men's basketball team remained undefeated in SCIAC play with a 64-60 win over Pomona-Pitzer at Rush Gym on Saturday.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 12-2 overall and 5-0 in SCIAC.

Pomona-Pitzer falls to 5-10 and 3-3.

Baines, who had a team-high 15 points, hit a pair of free throws after being iced with two timeouts to make the game a two-possession contest with 4.5 seconds to play.

Kaneshiro, Oxy's point guard who came into the game with an incredible 37 assists to just three turnovers in SCIAC play, had a jump hook and a jump shot in the last 4 minutes that helped Oxy hang onto its late second-half lead. The sophomore guard also had seven rebounds and four assists.

Austin DeWitz finished with 14 points on 5 for 10 shooting and seven rebounds. Jonny Crosthwaite chipped in 10 points and six rebounds, and Caleb Yellin-Flaherty had a team-high 10 rebounds and seven points.

Oxy got a spark in both halves off its bench from Jeevin Sandhu and Jacob Adler, who both scored six points.

Micah Elan led the Sagehens with 18 points and Alex Preston had 10 off of the bench.

After scoring just 24 points in the first half, Oxy scored 40 in the second half on 15 of 24 shooting. 

Oxy also played its trademark tough defense, holding the Sagehens to just 38 percent shooting for the game.
