LOS ANGELES — Maylene U. Hughes scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Occidental women's basketball team won at Caltech 81-66 in their first SCIAC game of the season on Wednesday night.
Hughes had five of her rebounds at the offensive end of the floor, to go along with three steals and two assists.
Raveena Dhiman added 19 points, including five threes, Mallory North scored 14, Taylor Yoshida had 10 rebounds and five assists, and Clarissa Kiyomura had eight points, six rebounds and three assists.
The game went back and forth in the first half, but the Tigers led 33-29 by halftime and never trailed again in the second half.
"I liked our patience, spacing and rebounding mindset," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "Our players did what we needed to do to get the win."
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in SCIAC play.
Caltech falls to 1-6.
Next Game: Oxy is back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Pomona-Pitzer.
