LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's basketball team was sharp at the start and played with the defending SCIAC Tournament Champions.
But Oxy ran out of juice in the second half, falling to Pomona-Pitzer 87-58 at Rush Gym on Saturday.
Taylor Yoshida led three Oxy players in double figures with 15 points and four steals. Mallory North had 14 points and Maylene U. Hughes had 13 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals.
Oxy's Michaela Smith added eight points and nine rebounds.
Pomona-Pitzer was led by Kamil English, who had 31 points off the bench.
"We had our opportunities, but the momentum was on Pomona's side today," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said.
The Tigers forced 20 turnovers with their up-temp pressure defense, but lost the rebounding battle 48-30.
Pomona-Pitzer had a big second half, outscoring Oxy 49-28 in the final 20 minutes.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in SCIAC.
Pomona-Pitzer improves to 3-4 and 1-0.
