LOS ANGELES — Alyssa Ramlochan came up huge on the boards, Taylor Yoshida had an efficient high-scoring game and the Occidental women's basketball team beat La Verne 78-74 at Rush Gym on Wednesday.
Ramlochan, who has been a double-double machine lately, had 15 points and 20 rebounds, helping the Tigers prevent La Verne from getting second-chance opportunities with their launch-and-crash style.
"We played hard and together all the way to the end," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "Our rebounding mindset and pursuit was excellent."
Yoshida had a game-high 20 points on 8 for 14 shooting, Maylene U. Hughes had 15 points and Raveena Dhiman had nine points off the bench.
Jazzlyn Johnson led La Verne with 19 points.
The Tigers took care of the ball, committing just 10 turnovers as a group, and held La Verne to just 28 percent shooting from the field, including 7 for 40 from beyond the 3-point line.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 7-17 overall and 2-13 in SCIAC play.
La Verne falls to 13-10 and 6-9.
