Los Angeles, CA — On Saturday, the Occidental men's water polo team had two wins for the day. In their second game against Cerritos College, the Tigers came out ahead with a 12-9 victory.
Starting things off with a fast sprint to win possession for Oxy was attacker Kellen Radtkey (Santa Barbara, CA). Cian Concannon (Mill Valley, CA) was the first to score 20 seconds into the game with an assist from Shea Grosz (Lafayette, CA). Cerritos went on a scoring streak, earning the next three goals. Christian Guillaume (Ventura, CA) was able to break through the defense and get a no-look goal with help from Jarrod Norton (Newbury Park, CA).
After falling a goal behind in the first period, Oxy recovered and never looked back. In the second, the Tigers had the highest scoring of the game for both teams. Radtkey won his second sprint of the day. Grosz, Radtkey, Guillaume, Norton, and Concannon were the Tigers that took the charge and scored in the second period, bringing Oxy ahead of CC, 7-6.
Attacker Aiden Cawley (Chicago, IL) got things started in the second half by winning the sprint for Oxy and later the first goal of the period, assisted by Joseph Cox (Fresno, CA). Concannon and Guillaume each found the back of the net in the third.
Unwilling to give up the Oxy sprint streak, Nate Fisher (LaGrange, IL) jumped out ahead to win possession for the Tigers. Guilaume was able to pump fake the goalie and score, with an assist from Grosz. On a powerplay, Cox was able to steal the ball, breakaway down the pool, and sink the ball into the back of the net.
Goalkeeper James Derrod (Chula Vista, CA) had a great game with 10 big saves, a save percentage of .526, and one assist.
