Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental men's water polo team competed against Westcliff University in their second game of the day. The Tigers, coming off of a morning win, sought to end Homecoming on a high.
To start things off, Kellen Radtkey (Santa Barbara, CA) faced off against Westcliff's Callum Norman in the sprint. A jump ball would result, with Westcliff gaining possession. Oxy was the first to score when Keegan Klien (Bellevue, CA), assisted by Radtkey, found the net. Westcliff's Norman was the first Warrior to score. At the end of the first period, the Warriors had the lead 4-3. In the second period, Radtkey would win the sprint against Norman, making up for the earlier draw. Cole Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA) had two consecutive saves in the same counter by the Warriors. The Tigers would have three shots on goal in the same sequence, but were unable to get past the Warriors' goalkeeper, Roberto Barrera Sanchez. Ivie had a big block, coming far out of the water, on the final shot of the period. At the end of the first half, Westcliff was up 7-5.
Opening the second half, Klein won the sprint. The Tigers had two successful counters to catch up to the Warriors, with Shea Grosz (Lafayette, CA) and Christian Guillaume (Ventura, CA) each picking up a goal. However, the Warriors would maintain a lead. Nate Fisher (LaGrange, IL) would revitalize the team with his powerful shot on goal that bounced off the water, under the goalkeeper's arm and found the net. Fisher would later win the fourth period sprint off of the jump ball. Oxy finally pulled ahead in the final period by earning three goals and keeping Westcliff scoreless. Oxy gains a hard-fought 13-12 win.
