Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental men's water polo team returned to action in their home pool on Saturday for the second day of the Gary Troyer Tournament.  The De Mandel Aquatics Center hosted Ottawa, Biola, Cal Lutheran, Penn State Behrend, and Concordia for a total of six games.  Oxy went up against Concordia in the third game and Penn State Behrend in the final game to close out the tournament.

Game 1:

Oxy attacked quickly, earning the first goal of the game, but Concordia responded by earning the next two.  The Tigers and Eagles were well matched, with neither team getting much of a lead over their opponent.  At the half, Concordia was up 5-4.  In the second half, the Tigers were able to turn things around by scoring six more times.  Leading the charge for the Tigers was attacker Shea Grosz (Lafayette, CA) with 3 goals.  Wilson Noll and Keegan Klein were just behind with a pair of goals each.  Keegan Klein, Nate Fisher, Joseph Cox, and Jarrod Norton each picked up a goal, bringing Oxy's total to 10 goals.

Junior goalkeeper Cole Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA) was essential to the Oxy win.  Concordia racked up a total of 25 shots on goal, but Ivie was able to extinguish their attempts to recover a lead by keeping them to only eight goals.  Ivie registered 11 saves and had a save percentage of .647.  Oxy beats Concordia 10-8.

The Eagles were led by Shaine Sargis and Jeff Runyan, each scoring three goals.

Game 2:

Oxy outpaced Penn State Behrend, ultimately winning 13-3.  The Tigers took charge in the first period (4-1) and were able to keep the Lions from scoring in the middle two periods.  Leading the Tigers to a commanding victory was Shea Grosz and Jarrod Norton (Newbury Park, CA) who each scooped up three goals.  Wilson Noll had a pair of goals, the first one taking place in the second period and the second in the third period.  Overall, eight Tigers scored with a single goal being picked up by Daniel Cruz, Aiden Cawley, Jasper Lee, Pete Buinauskas, and Joseph Cox.

The Tigers had sophomores Brandon Yeh (Fullerton, CA) and Daniel Cassel (San Mateo, CA) defending the Tiger goal in the final game of the tournament.  They each did an excellent job stopping the Lions offense.  The Lions had a total of 19 shots on goal, but were only able to get three past Yeh and Cassel.  Yeh had three key saves with a save percentage of .600 and Cassel had five big saves with a save percentage of .833.

The Lions were led by Jack Holl, Ryan Carpico, and Dario Gonzalez, each scoring one goal.

The Occidental men ended the day with two victories and bringing their tournament tally to 4-0.  The Tigers advance their overall record to 9-7.
