Claremont, CA — The Occidental men's water polo team travelled to Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday. Oxy and PP kept things close, however, the Sagehens were able to end the night with a home win, 16-11.
Kellen Radtkey (Santa Barbara, CA) won the first sprint. Attacker Jarrod Norton (Newbury Park, CA) scored the first goal of the game off of a five-meter penalty shot. The teams would go on to trade goals the rest of the first with PP pulling one goal ahead, 3-2. In the second, the Sagehens won possession on a jump ball. Following a goal by the Sagehens, Christian Guillaume (Ventura, CA) found the net on a powerplay. At the end of the second half, PP was up 7-5.
In the third period, the Sagehens were quick to advance their lead, scoring two consecutive goals within the first minute and a third shortly after. Norton was able to get the ball past the goalkeeper and break the Sagehens' scoring streak. In the final period, Oxy would match PP in goals scored, but it would not be enough to recover from falling behind earlier in the game.
The Tigers were led by Jarrod Norton who scored seven of the team's 11 goals. Norton had two penalties, two powerplays, and three even strength goals.
