Los Angeles, CA – In their first conference game against Whittier College, the Occidental women's basketball team fell short of the victory. After tying the first quarter and trailing in the second and third quarters, the Tigers finally gained the lead in the last quarter. Unfortunately, the Poets ended up taking home the victory, 64-50.

Sophomore, Toni Thompson (Newbury Park, CA), makes a statement in her first game back from injury. Thompson followed leading scorer, Maylene Hughes (Sacramento, CA) 21 points, with 11 points in addition to her 10 rebounds. The Tigers bench added some spice to the game, scoring 12 points in total.

Whittier's tough competition will help the Tigers plan for their next conference match and help build their road to victory. Leading scorers for the Poets were Teani White and Lainie James.
