Los Angeles, CA – The Occidental women's basketball team brought home their first SCIAC victory against the University of La Verne. After going back and forth between the Tigers and the Leopards, the Tigers' stamina and persistence earned them the lead. The Tigers end the game up two points, 84-82.
Once again, Toni Thompson (Newbury Park, CA) had a stellar performance leading the Tigers with 31 points. Maylene Hughes (Sacramento, CA) and Amaia McCoy (Las Vegas, NV) followed Thompson with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Together, the Tigers tallied up 57 rebounds to keep the Leopards at bay.
Head Coach Anahit Aladzhanjan said, "We left everything on the floor. I'm proud of our focus, poise and grit. Big road win, and now we shift gears to focus on Finals and taking advantage of a 12-day stretch to work on some things before our next game."
La Verne performed well against the Tigers for their second conference game. The Leopards' bench kept the Tigers on their toes scoring 39 points. Jazzlyn Johnson led the team with 21 points.
