La Jolla, CA — The Occidental men's water polo team headed to San Diego this past weekend to compete in the 2021 Triton Invitational. The invite consisted of twelve teams, nine of which are ranked in the 2021 Top 20 Collegiate Water Polo Association Preseason Poll. The Tigers faced No. 9 UCSD, No. 6 UCSB, No. 8 LBSU, and No. 5 Pepperdine over the two day tournament.
The Tigers, up against some of the best in the nation, were able to start off their season with strong competitors and walk away with many lessons learned. Oxy fell to all four teams and the results for the games were UCSD (17-4), UCSB (24-5), LBSU (18-5), and Pepperdine (18-5).
The top scorers for the Tigers over the weekend were Keegan Klein with five goals, Shea Grosz with four, and Daniel Cruz and Jarrod Norton each had three.
Next Game: The Tigers head to the 2021 Inland Empire Classic Tournament in Redlands, CA this weekend. There they will compete against Fresno Pacific at 10:20 a.m. and UCSM at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, September 11. On Sunday, September 12, they will be up against USC at 9 a.m. and Concordia at 1:30 p.m.
