Los Angeles, CA – Oxy played an easy game this Sunday against Cal Miramar.
The game started out strong for Cal Miramar as they maintained the lead for the first six minutes of the game, however Oxy's new starters in the first half brought in a different energy that quickly got them on the board.
Tejan Lanser was put into the game for the first time in awhile and played an extremely strong offense - in the first half alone he made 3 of his 4 three point shots and had the most assists alongside Aiden Williams. By the end of the game he scored the most points for Oxy.
Additionally, Aden Nolet has been getting more minutes these last few games resulting in better cohesion with the team despite it being his first year. His performance also seems to be improving; at the end of the first half he had the third highest amount of points. Forrest Nishi has also been showing improvement in his gameplay with less hesitation and more integration.
Overall in the first half, Cal Miramar managed to have 15 turnovers, passing the ball to a ghost player the rest of us could not see during the game. Christian Sellers specifically had five turnovers, the same amount Oxy had as an entire team. Luckily, Cal Miramar's Joante Avery still managed a decent offense and scored the most for his team in the first half.
In the second half, Oxy was in the lead by 24 points and had a determination to maintain that lead.
Both Nishi and Nolet continued to show their increasing performance during this second half, scoring in the double digits and Nolet alone having 14 rebounds, 7 offensive and 7 defensive.
Getting more time off the bench as well was Malcolm Schiltz who really showed up during the second half scoring more points and getting some assists. His teamwork with Aiden Williams really showed through with 9 minutes left on the clock during the second half. The two of them continued to make great shots during the game.
Tejan Lanser continued to pop off during the second half; Sydney Shipp and Michael Phaneuf showed off their skills as well, tied behind him with 13 points each.
Additionally, off the bench for the first time was Jacob Lopez who in the last minute scored and put Oxy at 95-43. Although we did not score triple digits, it was still a great game for Oxy especially for players who have not gotten much game time this season.
Next Game: Oxy's Tigers will be playing at Cal Tech on Monday, January 17th at 5:00pm.
