Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental Men's Water Polo team faced Whittier College for their second SCIAC game of the season. Shea Grosz (Lafayette, CA) kickstarted the game with help from Kellen Radtkey (Santa Barbara, CA). Then, Hayden Comerford (Honolulu, HI) followed with the assist going to Nate Fisher (LaGrange, IL). Christian Guillaume (Ventura, CA) scored next with a backhand goal, assisted by Grosz. The Tigers ended the first quarter with a bang, as Comerford scored his second goal of the night with help from Grosz. Keeping up the intensity, Keegan Klein (Bellevue, WA) found two perfect high corner shots with one assist awarded to Tate Miller (San Anselmo, CA). Then, Jarrod Norton (Newbury Park, CA) fired a shot to the back of the net with help from Radtkey.
The Tigers went into the fourth quarter tied at seven with the Poets. Comerford was the first to score on a penalty shot, then Radtkey followed with help from Grosz. Soon after, Fisher shot and scored with help from Grosz again. After a full timeout, Guillaume brought the intensity with a goal, assisted by Aiden Cawley (Chicago, IL). Cawley struck again with a goal on a powerplay. As the game rounded up, the teams were tied yet again but with one second left in the game, Norton fired the perfect shot with help from Grosz, bringing the Tigers to their second SCIAC win of the season. Defensively, the Tigers drew seven exclusions and had five steals. Some extra highlights: The Tigers won all four of the sprints at the beginning of each quarter and Grosz had five assists! This was the first win over Whittier since 2011. Final Score: 13-12 Oxy.
