Los Angeles, CA — The Oxy men's basketball team was in action on Saturday night at Rush Gymnasium against the Cal Miramar University Fighting Falcons. The team was able to get their 2nd win in as many games to start off the new season.
Both teams would come out of the gates making shots and playing good defense in the 1st half. The game was a close one until around 4 minutes left in the half when the Tigers would begin to pull away. With 2:09 left in the 1st half Kyle Dosa would drain a three with an assist from Sydney Shipp to give the TIgers a 29-24 lead.
The Tigers would end the half on a big run capped off by a Dosa layup and Shipp block on the defensive end to head into halftime with a 39-26 lead.
Oxy would put their foot on the gas pedal in the 2nd half and extend the lead even further by playing strong defense and finding open looks at the basket. The Tigers eventually got their lead up to 57-34 with 14:29 left in the game as Aiden Williams drained one from long range.
Oxy held on to a big lead for the rest of the game and finished with a 94-69 win over the fighting falcons. Jacob Hamermesh had solid minutes off the bench collecting 5 points (2-6 FG, 1-2 3P) and 5 rebounds while Jacob Koretz exploded for 19 points (8-9 FG, 2-3 3P) off the bench as the team's leading scorer in the game.
Kyle Dosa once again led the team in rebounds with 13 boards and Sydney Shipp and Ryan Hakl had the team high of 3 assists. Anthony Hollerich added 3 steals to his 8 points and 4 rebounds. Nicky Clotfelter added 6 points off the bench on 3 of 4 shooting for the field.
Next Game: The Tigers will travel to UC Riverside to take on the Highlanders on Saturday November 19th at 4:00PM.
