Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental men's basketball team came up just short at the end of their SCIAC opener against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Wednesday night.
It was close throughout the entire game and the Tigers held multiple leads throughout the game. Pomona led going into the half by a score of 29-28 but Anthony Hollerich, Sydney Shipp and Aiden Williams had 8 points each going into the locker room.
There would be multiple lead changes throughout the 2nd half as the Tigers kept playing strong defense and getting good shots on offense. The game would be tied at 57 with 3:39 remaining in the contest. Pomona would score and take the lead but Andrew Waldman would respond with a bucket of his own and tie the game once again.
Waldman brought the energy for the Tigers the entire game but eventually Pomona would prevail by a score of 69-61. Waldman had 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and a block and was one of 4 Tigers in the starting lineup to score in double digits. Ryan Hakl contributed 6 points off the bench and Sydney Shipp led the team with 4 assists.
Next Game: The Tigers will travel south to take on the SDSU Aztecs on Friday, December 2nd.
