Los Angeles, CA – The Occidental women's basketball team headed back to Claremont, CA to face the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. After being down in the first quarter, the Tigers were able to pick it up and out score the home team in the second. The Sagehens took the lead in the third quarter and tied the Tigers in the final period. It was a two-point game with less than three minutes on the clock. While the Tigers gave it their best effort in the end, they were unable to get the win. The match ended 49-60, Sagehens.
Regardless of the score, the Tigers continued to keep up the energy on the court. Ainsley Shelsta was the star of the show when she came off the bench. Shelsta was unstoppable, allowing her to put up 10 points against the Sagehens and lead the Tigers in points. Michella Lagunas-Monroy was a force on the defensive end with her 6 defensive rebounds and 4 offensive, totaling 10. This placed Lagunas-Monroy with the most rebounds of the match.
The Sagehens were a challenging opponent. Madison Quan was unbeatable and put up 18 points for the Sagehens. Emily Church held it down on defense with 12 defensive rebounds to help her team to success.
The Tigers are heading to Texas to face Dallas Christian at Dallas Christian on Saturday, December 17 at 1:00 p.m.
