Los Angeles, CA – It was a very special game dedicated to a Senior basketball player and fierce breast cancer survivor, Louise Jones. Both the Occidental and Chapman women's basketball teams rallied together wearing pink socks and ribbons to show their support for Louise. After the teams dedicated gifts for Louise, the game kicked off. The Tigers gave it their best shot against the Panthers, but unfortunately could not hold down the fort.
Regardless of the score, each Tiger should be proud of themselves and their teammates for giving it their all until the final buzzer rang. It was nice to see Amaia McCoy (Las Vegas, NV) back on the court after being out with injury for the past couple of games. Right off the bench, McCoy charges the Panthers making her layup in her very first play. Reese Jones (Los Angeles, CA) had fire in her eyes and it fueled her game. One second, Jones is on the ground, the next she's sprinting down the court to apply immediate pressure and help her team out on defense. The same attribute can be found in Toni Thompson (Newbury Park, CA) who led the Tigers with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Each point that was put up on the board was fought extremely hard for by each Tiger that stepped onto the court.
Julia Strand was the leading scorer for the Panthers with 29 points for her team. Overall the Panthers really pushed the Tigers and were able to take home a 10 point victory.
Next Game: Oxy heads to Pomona, CA to challenge the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Wednesday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m.
