Los Angeles, CA – The Occidental women's basketball team traveled to Redlands, CA to face the University of Redlands bulldogs for a rematch. It was a tough match for the Tigers, but they were determined to bring all they had onto the court. Although they did not bring home the dub, the Tigers were still able to battle until the final buzzer rang. Redlands took the crown with a 15 point lead, 79-64.
Toni Thompson (Newbury Park, CA) climbs her way to the top putting up 20 points on the scoreboard for the Tigers. Her skills and eye for the basket was no match for the Redlands defense. Thompson also went 5-5 for free throws and recovered seven rebounds. Following Thompson, Maylene Hughes (Sacramento, CA) and Alegria Lopez (Los Angeles, CA) scored 9 points each. Hughes led in assists with three and Lopez earned two. Matching Thompson in rebounds was Michelle Lagunas-Monroy with seven, three of which were on offense allowing the Tigers to continue their offensive attack on the Bulldogs. Overall, the Tigers managed to earn an impressive 72.2% free throw percentage and earn 7 points off of turnovers.
Redlands' constant pressure on the ball made it hard for Oxy to gain control of the game. The Bulldogs had 38 rebounds and scored 46 points from in the paint.
