Box Score

Los Angeles, CA — Occidental men's basketball was at home on Saturday afternoon for a matchup with the Redlands Bulldogs. Redlands came into the game with a 6-1 record, good for first place in the SCIAC.

Oxy would come out strong in this one and jum out to a quick 11-4 lead after Kyle Dosa made a layup. Redlands was quick to get back into the game going on a short scoring run to get the deficit down to only two points.

With less than 10 minutes left in the 1st half the Tigers would go on a nice run that began with Anthony Hollerich getting to the line and making both free throws. Just a minute later Sydney Shipp would make a 3-pointer that would give the Tigers a 25-15 lead.

Redlands would continue to chip into the lead and not go away but the Tigers were prepared to handle the Bulldogs' runs. Noah Delorme would make a layup that would stretch the Tigers lead back up to 33-23.

Aiden Williams would make a layup as the half came to a close before Shipp would end the half with a made jumpshot that allowed the Tigers to take a 43-36 lead into the locker rooms.

The 2nd half of the game would be filled with high intensity play from both teams. The Tigers were able to stretch their lead back up to double digits as it came to about the halfway point of the half when Andrew Waldman knocked down a jumper to give the Tigers a 12-point lead.

With 11 minutes left in the game the Bulldogs would start chipping slowly into the lead. They were able to start making defensive stops and making their own jumpshots as Redlands went on a 12-0 scoring run to even the score at 58-58 with 7:46 left in the game.

After Redlands took a slight lead, Shipp would step up again and make a huge 3-pointer to grab the lead back for the Tigers. The Bulldogs quickly took the lead back with a layup and extended it with a 3-pointer on the next possession.

With less than a minute left in the game Oxy was only down two points, but Redlands had possession of the ball and was able to make a jump shot to extend the lead to four. Oxy would have to foul in order to have a chance to spark a comeback and Redlands was able to make their free throws to secure the win, 72-66.

Oxy will look to bounce back when they travel to Whittier on Wednesday, January 25th.
