Game Recap: Men's Water Polo | | Koko Butcher

Oxy Controls Match Against San Diego Mesa College

Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental Men's Water Polo team spent Saturday morning playing the San Diego Mesa Olympians. Lars Schubert scored first for the Tigers on a powerplay, with help from Travis Hughes (Corte Madera, CA). Then, Jake Eulenhoefer fired a shot past the goalie. Following shortly, Aiden Cawley (Chicago, IL) scored two back-to-back goals to keep the Tigers on a roll. Danny Miller scored next with the help of Schubert and then Zane Derrod (Chula Vista, CA) ended the first quarter on a goal with the assist going to Max Stone (San Diego, CA). In the second quarter, Z. Derrod found his second goal of the game on a penalty shot. Then, Oliver Wilkins (Seattle, WA) scored with the pass from Cawley. Shortly after, D. Miller and Wilkins scored again, with both assists awarded to Schubert. Then, Schubert scored a goal of his own after making great assists, with the help of Z. Derrod. The Tigers didn't stop scoring there though. Christian Guillaume (Ventura, CA) beat the goalie followed by a perfect shot from Raul Rodriguez (Miami, FL). Both goals were assisted by Wilkins. After taking a break during halftime, the Tigers were ready to continue their scoring streak. D. Miller was the first to score in the third quarter, with help from Cawley. Then, Guillaume found his second goal of the game with a great pass from Cawley, again. Hughes came next with a strong shot, sponsored by a pass from Z. Derrod. Then, to end off the third, Guillaume, assisted by Jack Davis (Livermore, CA), and Wilkins scored. In the fourth quarter, D. Miller scored his fourth goal of the game with help from Wilkins. Then, Stone and Guillaume followed, with one of the assists awarded to Cawley. To finish off the offensive run for the Tigers, Z. Derrod converted another five-meter attempt. On defense, the Tigers drew six exclusions, Guillaume drawing three, and had twelve steals, Hughes taking three. Final Score: 22-9 Oxy 

Max Diaz and Dylan McQuade led the Olympians with three goals each.
